Wax Cat Candles is a one woman show. Making candles started as a holiday hobby for me over a decade ago. Every year, I would break out a chunk of paraffin and some rusty old candle molds, and destroy my kitchen to make a bunch of gifts for family and friends. The first few years I did this, the candles were more toxic fire hazards than anything. Over the years, I became more educated on how to make a proper candle, and just when I thought I had it all figured out, I learned about soy.

I quickly realized that I needed to quit using paraffin all together, so I switched to soy and had to relearn everything. Once I got back up to speed with the soy, people couldn’t keep their hands off of them. I started making small batches on my days off from my full time job, and selling them to friends and coworkers. I finally had an opportunity to dedicate my time to my hobby and make a go if it, so I converted a family room into a workshop and started the long process of being self-employed doing what I love.

The love of making a quality product, with quality ingredients has lead me to a growing interest in body products, and the art of cold process soap making. In my never ending search of the most perfect concoctions that wouldn’t make my skin break out, I started reading labels very closely. Being a label reader has helped fuel my interest in making those perfect products, because it just isn’t that hard. A little dash of mad scientist, a little sprinkle of chemistry, a fat spoon full of love….
